How the gold rate is calculated in India

Understand 24K/22K/18K quotes, per-gram vs per-10g pricing, and what moves daily gold rates in India.

Daily gold rates in India are retail reference prices for pure and jewellery-grade gold, usually quoted in ₹ per gram (and often also shown per 10 grams). They track international bullion, the rupee–dollar move, import duties and local demand—not the final jewellery invoice.

What “gold rate today” usually means

  • 24K (99.9%) — near-pure gold; the cleanest spot-style reference.
  • 22K (91.6%) — most Indian jewellery; alloyed for strength.
  • 18K (75%) — common in western-style and lighter designs.

Per gram vs per 10 grams

Online city pages (including ours) quote ₹ per gram. Traditional jewellers often speak in ₹ per 10 grams—multiply the per-gram rate by 10. Use our India gold rates quantity tables for 1g, 8g, 10g, 12g (1 tola) and 100g in one view.

What the listed rate does not include

Making charges, wastage, GST and hallmarking fees sit on top of the metal rate. Read GST and making charges before comparing a website quote with a shop bill.
